Membrane concentration is a kind of technology to reform the traditional process to achieve high-efficiency purification and concentration. It uses the difference between the molecular weight of active ingredients and liquid to achieve directional separation and concentration. Compared with traditional heating and concentration, it has the advantages of low energy consumption, normal temperature and little impact on products. It has been applied in the following areas:

1. purification and concentration of gelatin, protein and enzyme

Ultrafiltration has become an efficient process for the purification and concentration of gelatin, protein, enzyme and gelatin. The advantages of ultrafiltration concentration are no phase change, generally no heating, simplified process, wide pH range and prevention of deactivation. It is very suitable for the separation and concentration of heat sensitive substances. Usually, the pretreated crude products are ultrafiltered to make some low molecular substances and salts penetrate the membrane, so that enzymes and proteins can be concentrated and refined. The purification and concentration of different enzymes and proteins can be realized by selecting different membranes with different molecular weight, different membrane materials and processes.

Nanofiltration has been widely used in the purification and concentration of materials with molecular weight of 200 ~ 2000, such as dyes, antibiotics, peptides and amino acids.
